Day 1: night in Montreal (Saturday night)
Welcome to the Belle province! Upon your arrival, you will be met by a Mekoos representative. He will take you to the Hyatt, a deluxe hotel in downtown Montreal where you'll be able to recover from jet lag and discover the city. Some activities will be proposed to start off your stay in Quebec. Have a nice vacation!
Day 2: Montreal-Mekoos (Snowmobiling: 80 km)
After breakfast, a bus will take you to the Mekoos, about 3 ½ hours from Montreal. You will be greeted by the Dumoulin family and its team with a welcome cocktail, a delicious local mead. Once you've settled into your room or chalet, we will give you the "Big Chill" clothing you will be wearing throughout your stay. You will receive training and safety instructions for your first snowmobile ride: 60 km on our try out trails to familiarize yourself with your vehicle. When you return from your ride, you'll sit down to a delicious meal prepared by our chef with our own local flavours.
Day 3: Mekoos (Snowmobiling:150 km)
Your guide will take you up to the summit of Mont Sir Wilfrid, also called la Montagne du Diable (Devil's Mountain) one of the highest peaks in the Laurentians (783 m). You will then ride on marked trails through one of the most beautiful forests of the region, where over 25 species of trees stand frosted, like ice sculptures in this wintry land. An enchanting scenery to discover.
A stopover at the Relais de la montagne is truly a must for its breathtaking view of the Baskatong Reservoir, a vast inner sea covering 320 sq. km at the foot of the mountain. For lunch, we will be stopping at l'Érablière Quatre Printemps in Ferme-Neuve to share with you a traditional sugar shack meal: French-Canadian pea soup, baked beans, pork grills, sausage and ham, all topped with maple syrup. And, as a final touch, the famous maple taffy on the snow. Also, our hostess Jocelyne will take you on a tour of the site and explain all the different stages of production for our delicious maple syrup. Afterwards, you will complete the loop and return to the Mekoos where Sébastien will be waiting for you for drinks. A perfect time for you to share your discoveries and fraternize with the other participants.
Day 4: Mekoos (Snowmobiling: 150 km)
On this 4th day, your guide will take you to the Manawan First Nations Reservation, founded in 1906. You will be introduced to the Atikamekw community and learn about their customs and their village. Lunch will take place at the restaurant Chez Elisabeth, a meeting place for all the snowmobilers riding in this area. On your way back to the Mekoos, your guide will take you on un-groomed, un-marked trails so that you can feel the thrill of riding in powder snow.
Day 5: Mekoos (Day of trapping)
Be prepared for another wonderful experience dating back to the period of New France. You will go off with Alain, your guide, to explore our wildlife on snowshoes. Our exclusive territory abounds in game and all sorts of animals. Don't forget to bring your camera to capture the beautiful scenery and the animals you might see along the way.
Alain will also explain to you why trapping is essential in maintaining a balanced wildlife. He will introduce you to his trapline and the different ways to catch game. He will also prepare your lunch, grilled on a wood fire. During the afternoon, you'll have the opportunity to do some trout fishing and if you're lucky, your catch will be prepared by our chef as an appetizer for that evening's meal. Upon your return to the lodge, Sébastien will be waiting again for you for drinks and his famous magic tricks. You'll then enjoy a gourmet dinner prepared by our chef and spend a nice final evening looking back on this wonderful week spent together.
Day 6: Mekoos (Dogsledding)
An unforgettable experience awaits you. You will take off on a dogsledding ride with an experienced musher and his beautiful husky dogs for about 20 km on our special trails. It's an amazing opportunity to travel back to the olden days and develop a special relation with the dogs. A guaranteed thrilling experience! Lunch will take place in the forest, around a campfire on which you'll be able to grill your sandwiches. After this wonderful experience, you will return to the comfort of the main lodge where the whole team will be waiting for you for dinner.
Day 7: Mekoos (Free day)
Today, enjoy your last day to relax. Our spa, sauna and lounge are at your disposal all times. If you want to relive a day of snowmobiling or dog sledding is also possible. Dinner and overnight at the Mekoos.
Day 8: Mekoos-Montreal
After a delicious breakfast, the entire Dumoulin family will be saying farewell... that is, until your next stay with us. A bus will take you back to Montreal, making a stop downtown for those of you who would like to purchase some souvenirs of your wonderful adventure in Quebec. Afterwards, it's back to Trudeau Airport. You'll be flying home, your mind filled with splendid images of the past week.
